Gynecology - Surgery - Pre-Op Surgery Instructions
Pre-Op Surgery Information
You will meet with our surgery scheduler in our office to set up a date for your surgery. If she is not available at the time you check out she will call you later to set up the arrangements. Once scheduled, you will receive instructions by mail about your surgery and information regarding financial responsibilities.
A phone number for pre-admission testing (P.A.T.) will be included. You will need to call this number and set up an appointment to pre-register and get lab work done. Any questions regarding your hospital stay or anesthesia can be answered at this number. Any questions about the surgery itself should be directed to our surgery scheduler at 945-5233 ext. 4.
Many procedures require a bowel prep the night before your surgery. Please read all instructions and follow any additional instructions that may be sent to you.
Make sure we have the proper phone numbers and address to reach you.
Do not eat or drink 8 hours prior to your surgery.
Discontinue all over the counter pain relievers other than Tylenol (acetaminophen) products two weeks prior to surgery.
Discontinue herbal products (diet pills, liquids, or vitamins that contain herbal supplements) two weeks prior to your procedure. Please let your doctor know if you are taking any of these items. They can affect your anesthesia, cause an increase in bleeding and bruising, and possibly affect the healing process.
Someone needs to drive you to and from the hospital. You cannot drive yourself home.
Remove all jewelry and piercings prior to coming to the hospital. Do not wear make up or use baby oil on your skin the day of surgery. Fingernail polish should be removed the day before surgery.
Some people experience a sore throat after surgery. Gargle with warm salt water as needed.
