Menopause
Menopause is a normal and natural event experienced by all women. The average age that women go through menopause is 51 years. Menopause marks the permanent end of menstruation, ovulation and fertility. Some women experience early menopause because of family history or lifestyle factors such as smoking. Also, premature menopause may occur before the age of 40 secondary to medical conditions or by surgical removal of the ovaries.
Approximately 4 - 6 years prior to menopause women will experience peri-menopause. During this period women have hormonal fluctuations that can lead to intermittent ovulation and menopause like symptoms.
